Kristin Perry, PsyD

Experience

Dr. Kristin Perry has spent nearly 30 years working with children, adolescents, parents, adults and couples. Much of her clinical experience has taken place in diverse settings including nursery, elementary, middle and high schools, and at area hospitals and clinics such as Stamford, Four Winds, and St. Luke’s-Roosevelt. Some examples of the kind of work Kristin has engaged in includes conducting parent-child and family therapy, running social-skills groups with children, support groups for young teens, as well as mother/infant and mother/toddler groups, administering neuropsychological assessments, and providing psychotherapy. Kristin’s frequent consultations to public, private and special needs schools have been ongoing for many years. Kristin is particularly distinguished for her work with special needs children and their families. As such, she was cited as a resource for parents in “A Parent’s Guide to Special Education in New York City and the Metropolitan Area” by Laurie Dubos and Jane Fromer.  Kristin devoted much study to the treatment of couples and has used this knowledge to create a unique hybrid model combining parent guidance and couples work.

Education

Kristin earned her doctorate in School-Clinical Child Psychology from Pace University. After completing her internship, she was awarded a fellowship in the Department of Child Psychiatry at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital and subsequently joined St. Luke’s as a staff psychologist. Ongoing education is a significant priority for Kristin. She is informed in part by interpersonal neurobiology, family systems, psychodynamic and attachment models.  She is a psychobiological stress/trauma resolution (SE) practitioner and has begun teaching via the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute.

Research and Teaching

Kristin has supervised psychology graduate students in adult and child psychotherapy at Pace University and at Columbia University’s Teacher’s College and served as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology at Pace University and Concordia College. Kristin participated in attachment-based seminars on infant research and adult treatment; in research on suicide prevention in adolescents, and conducted original research on the relationship between grandparents and their adolescent grandchildren’s academic achievement.

In Addition to InParentis…

Kristin spent numerous years as a board member of several nursery schools, and then as a board member of a district-wide schools foundation providing funding for administrator, teacher and student programming. She has been in private practice for over 20 years serving parents, children, adolescents, adults and couples and maintains a private practice in Manhattan and in Dobbs Ferry, NY.
